The Following - Soundtrack NY...

EdiPrompt has always been a very useful tool on my ADR stage. It recently proved itself invaluable while shooting remote ADR for the first season of Fox Broadcasting's “The Following”. The producers desired to shoot most of the ADR on set and EdiPrompt made it possible for me to easily provide multiple streamers and dialog on screen, just like I would on my stage. Overlay Text and Cues

EdiPrompt overlays cues on top of a movie window (see Requirements below). This includes the text of an actors line as well as a visual cue using either a streamer, pair of prompts or a counter. In addition, a progress bar can be displayed to show the duration of the cue, as well as the record status of Pro Tools and the cue or take number.

EdiPrompt can also mask the movie window in two different ways. The first provides the option to mask the whole movie window before or after a cue, while the other can mask the top or bottom of the movie window continuously to hide distracting editorial timecode numbers or text.

Triggering Options

The cues generated by EdiPrompt can be triggered by:

MIDI files generated by EdiCue, EdiPrompt or EdiLoad. These are loaded into Pro Tools and shown on MIDI tracks. These MIDI commands are then sent to EdiPrompt when Pro Tools plays and records
Auto cues. These are automatically generated within EdiPrompt when Pro Tools plays or records. These are ideal for recording foley or voiceover to picture
External MIDI notes. Third party devices can trigger cues in EdiPrompt by sending it pre-defined MIDI notes. GPI’s can be converted to MIDI notes with devices like a JW Electronics Parallel to MIDI converter

Automate Recordings

The EdiPrompt Cue List window can help automate the recording process when using Pro Tools by:

Renaming one or more record tracks
Locating to each cue in the list with a pre-record length if required
Speaking the take number during pre-roll for ident purposes

Stream Deck Integration

Access the commonly used ADR record functions directly from physical buttons by connecting an Elgato Stream Deck. Install the EdiPrompt plugin and you’re ready to drop pre-defined actions onto any Stream Deck button. Now you have a way to navigate the EdiPrompt Cue List, trigger a locate, rename and locate or bypass the selected cue, as well as trigger the EdiPrompt Hot Keys and Pro Tools transport commands to preview, record and stop/play

Load Cue Data from EdiCue PDFs and TTAL Files

EdiPrompt can convert the ADR cue data stored within an EdiCue PDF or Netflix TTAL file to generate a MIDI file ready for ADR recording. See this video for more information on how to convert the cue data stored within an EdiCue PDF.

Requirements

EdiPrompt v3 is a 64-bit Universal Binary (Arm/Intel) application that is compatible with macOS Sierra (10.12) and above including macOS Ventura (13.x).

Currently there is no Windows version

Compatible with Pro Tools® an AVID Audio® product, version 12.6 and above. Tested with Pro Tools 2023.3.

Visual cues can only be overlaid on screens that are connected to a display port that shows up on the ‘Displays’ pane of the macOS System Preferences. Generally these are built-in Mac or graphics card display ports. The Pro Tools ‘movie’ window is positioned on this display so EdiPrompt can overlay its cues on top.

EdiPrompt is not compatible with video peripherals that stream video directly from Pro Tools. For example: Nitris, Mojo, Blackmagic, AJA, and Canopus.

Cue Beeps and Take Speech can be routed to play out to any core audio device from within EdiPrompt. This includes Aux I/O virtual ports available with Pro Tools 2022.9 and above.

The only MIDI controller that can be connected while using the extended features of EdiPrompt is a HUI compatible controller (i.e. A 002, 003 or Command 8 midi controller cannot be connected simultaneously)

The EdiPrompt Installer (Mac only) contains a current version of EdiPrompt, comprehensive User Guide and a sample files. The same installer can be used with trial, rental, EDU and full licenses.
